News Release – April 16, 2024

Douglas County PUD Commissioners Ronald E. Skagen and Aaron J. Viebrock executed the following actions during the April 16, 2024 Commission meeting held at the District’s East Wenatchee office:

Continued the hearing for the Electric Rate Adjustment.

Staff discussed proposed electric rate adjustments for 2026-2030. The average residential customer would see an increase of around $3 per month, small commercial would increase an average of $6.40 per month. “We want to give our customers small predictable rate adjustments so they know where we are headed and can plan accordingly.” said General Manager Gary Ivory. The generating capacity of Wells Dam allows Douglas PUD to sell excess generation, not needed to cover local load, at a higher market rate. That market revenue is used to keep retail rates lower for our local customers. As loads grow in county through electrification of transportation and economic development there will be less market revenue from wholesale power sales which will put pressure on retail rates. This process balances the charges in a fair, non-discriminatory, cost-based, predictable approach. The presentation slide deck is linked here. After receiving a few comments, the hearing was closed.

Authorized renewal of Contract 23-12-D, Transmission and Distribution dock crew for an additional one-year period with Olympic Electric Company.  As allowed by contract, this will extend the contract to April 1, 2025 and adjust labor rates. (24-149)

Approved adjustments to certain technical, professional and administrative salaries. Adjustments to salaries to recognize performance, responsibility and job market trends are necessary to continue to attract and retain a qualified workforce. (24-050)

Authorized change order No. 7 to contract 22-13-D, Hydrogen Production and Fueling Facility. Changes include field work orders to add oxygen sensors and procure, fabricate and install the exterior piping systems at an increased cost of $704,659.72. (24-051)

The next regular meeting of the Commission is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. May 7, 2024 at the District’s East Wenatchee Office.
